Keep Going When It Feels Like Nothing's Working

Have you ever had that moment where you sit down, stare at your bank account, your performance numbers, your goals list… and think:

“What’s the point? I’ve done everything I’m supposed to do—and it still feels like I’m getting nowhere. I’m this close to quitting.”

Let me tell you something:

  • You’re not lazy.

  • You’re not failing.

  • You’re just in the middle.

And the middle is hard.

No matter which of the Paths to Fortunes you’re on—employee, investor, self-employed, or otherwise—there will be seasons when the path becomes rocky and foggy and uphill. You’ll question your methods, your momentum, even your direction.

But take heart: there are practical ways to shift from discouraged and drained… to focused, energized, and proud—even before the results show up in your bank account.

1. Feel It—Don’t Fake It

It’s okay to admit that you’re tired. Frustrated. Scared.

Pretending you’re fine doesn’t help. Sitting in discouragement too long doesn’t either.

So take 15 minutes to feel it: vent, scream, journal, cry, pray—whatever helps you release the weight.

Then stand up. And decide: You’re not done.

You’re just in the middle. All you need to do is take one step toward how you want to feel.

I tape words on my wall like:

  • Calm

  • Accomplished

  • Peaceful

  • Motivated

  • Fighter

I say them out loud. I breathe. I reset.

You're not faking it—you're accessing it.

You can feel discouraged and grateful. Discontentment is often a symptom of ambition. You can be ambitious and still find peace and hope.

2. Redefine What Progress Looks Like

We’ve been trained to think that results = success. But actually?

  • Perseverance is progress.

  • Showing up is success.

  • Living your purpose is success.

  • Being in alignment with your values is success.

If you’ve ever run a race, you know the temptation to check your distance, your time, your speed. You might want to quit.

But if you feel like quitting, ask yourself: Why did I start? How far have I come?

Yes, keep your eyes on the goal. But remember: Today matters too.

Ask:

Did I show up with discipline today? Did I do the next right thing?

If yes, you’re winning.

3. Create Micro-Wins

Big goals can feel like a grind. So create micro-wins by focusing on what you can control:

  • Make the phone call

  • Finish the draft

  • Post the thing

  • Drink the water

  • Serve someone

  • Build trust

  • Be consistent

  • Improve your skill

Small wins build momentum. Momentum builds belief. Belief carries you when motivation fades.

4. Get Out of Your Head and Into Your Body

Low energy isn’t just mental—it’s physical too.

Motion changes emotion.

Take a short break: stand up, stretch, walk, do 20 jumping jacks. Or take off your shoes, stand in the grass, close your eyes, and breathe.

For me, music is a game-changer.

Listen to my playlists:

Featured songs:

  • "Unstoppable" – Sia

  • "Roar" – Katy Perry

  • "Titanium" – David Guetta ft. Sia

  • "Rise Up" – Andra Day

  • "You Say" – Lauren Daigle

  • "Even If" – MercyMe

  • "Overcomer" – Mandisa

Or clean a room. Plant flowers. Talk to your doctor about nutrition, sleep, or hormones. Rest is not a weakness—it’s a strategy.

5. Borrow Belief Until Yours Comes Back

When your belief is low, borrow someone else’s.

Talk to a friend, a mentor, a therapist, someone who knows your heart.

Or start with mine:

You are doing better than you think. The results are coming. You can handle this.

Reframe the "What if?" thoughts to: "Even if ___ happens, I can handle it."

Also, if you're a person of faith, look up scriptures that say: Do not worry. Do not fear. You're not alone. There is a purpose for this part of the story.

6. Stop Obsessing Over the Plan—Focus on the Principles and Purpose

Sometimes the goal i

sn’t wrong—the strategy is.

So zoom out. Ask:

  • What’s the principle behind the plan?

  • Am I living in alignment with my values?

When your values are clear, your decisions get easier.

Look at your vision board and remind yourself:

Every day you’re making decisions that move you closer to that vision.

Purpose fuels perseverance. Build routines around your values.

Plans can change. Principles don’t fail.

Final Thought: Your Effort Counts

Beginnings are scary. Endings can be sad. And the middle? The middle is hard.

But there are powerful moments of growth, grit, joy, and strength in the middle.

No one promised this would be easy. But I promise: It will be worth it.

Even if no one sees it. Even if your numbers don’t show it yet. Even if you feel like giving up.

You are building the strength to create the life you want—and you’re inspiring others while you do it.

Stay in the game. The results will come.

And when they do, you’ll know: You earned them.
